Why in Clifton Springs, NY

There are two buildings that always catch my eye when I travel through Clifton Springs, NY on Main Street – the Clifton Springs Apartments which was formerly the Clifton Springs Sanitarium that was dedicated in 1896 and the Congregational Church which is located a little further up the hill. There’s a lot of history in just these two buildings. But my visit to Clifton Springs took me off Main Street to 2 South Street where the G. W. Lisk Co., Inc is located. Here, tucked in some rolling terrain is an unobtrusive international company which builds world class electro-mechanical valves…read more

Mary St George – A Great Resource of Finger Lakes Information

I enjoy reading Mary St George’s blog – The Chair on the Lake (click here). She is also able to bring her professional experience as a real estate broker to her blog, The Chair on the Lake. Now you can have access to Mary St George’s blog from here by just clicking on her blue button logo, the chair on the lake. Knowing someone who can show pictures and describe some…read more

Their southern migration is off schedule due to the unseasonable temperatures but they are very much at home in the cold in their goose…read more

Winter Fun in the Finger Lakes

It was the calm after the storm. That good feeling which comes after you’ve finished clearing off the driveway for the third time and knowing that you can go to the grocery store if you really wanted to go. We’ve had our first storm of the winter here in the Finger Lakes and behind the storm came a high pressure area which cleared the sky of its grey and allowed the sun to shine thru again. And with the sun and cold came that “it’s great to be alive feeling” and a wanting to be outside to enjoy some winter…read more

How a Beer Sign Became a City’s Icon

When I recently visited Auburn, I couldn’t figure out why there was a giant Genesee Beer sign in downtown Auburn, NY. Not that I have anything against Genesee Beer as it used to be the beer of choice during the 60’s and 70’s when I was working in Endicott, NY. Today, most towns around the Finger Lakes limit the amount of outdoor advertising that a company can do. My friend Michael Sargent who was born and raised in Auburn, NY sent me some information on the giant beer sign (click here) and also supplied me with a picture of what…read more
