Being Thankful in the Finger Lakes |

I had a good day last Saturday at Wegmans in Canandaigua for my book signing. And for that I am thankful. I did meet and talk with a lot of really nice people who appreciate all of the hard work and long hours that goes into raising vegetables, grains, and animals for food: Like the man who had been working 36 hours straight harvesting (shelling) corn in the field. Today, when the weather conditions are right, you keep going till the job is done as Mother Nature may not give you a second chance. He told me that the corn yields were good this year. Or the young mother who with her husband started raising vegetables and chickens for their own consumption and then started selling them to their neighbors who soon discovered that the taste of local market farm produce is much better than commercially grown imported food.
Here in the Finger Lakes we are blessed with many dairy farms, grain farms, family farms, market farms, farmers markets, orchards, vineyards, and wineries. And so this Thanksgiving, lets give a big THANK YOU to all of these folks who work so hard to produce our food and drink.
Happy Thanksgiving to them and to all of you too!
