A Delayed Christmas Gift in the Finger Lakes |

The Amaryllis bulbs that my brother Sylvan and sister-in-law Nancy from Modesto California sent for Christmas are in full bloom now and brightening up our living room. The bulbs were sent from whiteflowerfarm.com (click here) and all you have to do is open the box and begin watering the bulbs once a week. The first one to bloom is called ‘Splash’ which has double red flowers with a white star in the center.

The next Amaryllis to bloom was ‘Amigo’ with Carmine-rose flowers. And finally, the double white flowers of the ‘Nymph' Amaryllis bulb appeared. These flowers surely add to the color of our finger lakes living at this time of the year and remind us that while there is cold and snow outside now, soon there will be green grass and spring flowers here in the finger lakes.

February 2nd is Groundhog Day. It doesn’t much matter much whether Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow or not, there’s going to be another six weeks of winter in the finger lakes!
